About Dr. Jim Joyce - WikiHorseWorld's Official Horse Vet

Dear WikiHorseWorld Members:

Hello and welcome! My name is Dr. Jim Joyce DVM but you can call me "Dr. Jim" for short. I am a practicing veterinarian who specializes in horse healthcare and my clinic (Southwest Veterinary Hospital) is located in Fair Grove Missouri about 5 miles north of Springfield Missouri. I started this practice in 1987 and have been treating horses in the Springfield Missouri area for the past 25 years. We are committed to all aspects of the horse's health and well being.

I've always loved animals and I've been especially fond of horses for as long as I can remember. I decided early on to pursue a career as a Veterinarian and graduated from the University of Missouri College Of Veterinary Medicine in 1985. Shortly after graduating, I worked for a veterinary practice specializing in race horses and gained a vital understanding of the unique equine healthcare issues required in the horse racing industry. However it wasn't long before I decided to move back to Missouri and start my own equine practice and I've been here ever since.

I first learned about WikiHorseWorld.com when the website's owners brought their horse Gracie to see me with a severe eye injury. Gracie had a badly ulcerated cornea which required many different treatments and checkups over the course of several months but I'm happy to say that Gracie is now well on her way to a full recovery. Over the course of all these visits to my office, I came to appreciate WikiHorseWorld.com and I was particularly intrigued by the "Ask a Pro" section of the website. I saw this as a great way to share my knowledge of equine healthcare with the online horse community.

So please forward your horse healthcare questions to me and I'll respond just as soon as time allows. I look forward to a long and rewarding relationship with WikiHorseWorld.com and helping WikiHorseWorld members with all their equine health and wellness questions, issues or problems.

Sincerely

Dr. Jim Joyce, DVM
